Miss Chick Lit Pageant

MissChickLit2015

Hello all!  In case you didn’t know, May is Chick Lit Month, so a bunch of my chick lit writer friends and I are celebrating this week with chick lit-themed posts and giveaways.  My two e-books, Twenty-Five and Honor’s Lark, will be on sale for $0.99 all week, and on Friday, the other ladies books will also be on sale for $0.99.

Physical Inspiration for Honor – Zoe Saldana

Our first post is the Miss Chick Lit Pageant and my contestant is Honor Sandoval from Honor’s Lark!

Welcome, Honor!  Tell us a little about yourself.

“I’m Honor Sandoval and I’m here representing Linhill*.  I’m a 30 year old former ballerina with a love for baking and sarcasm.  Not really sure what I’m doing here because I really don’t need anyone else’s validation.”

*Linhill is the city Honor lives in, in the fictional region of Belburn, in the Lark universe.

Swimsuit Competition:

Honor, what are you wearing at the beach this summer?

“I like clean and classic styles.  I love this suit because it looks like something I could have worn when performing with the dance company.”

JOG Swimwear(3)

Talent Competition:

Honor’s talent is an original solo ballet she choreographed.  Something along the lines of this:

Her dance is inspired by the range of emotions she went through when she injured herself and ended her ballet career, lost both her lifegivers, and met the love of her life, Sedric.

Interview:

Honor, which awesome fashion trend do you wish would make a comeback? And which awful fashion trend do you hope to never see again?

“Like I said earlier, I simple simple and classic styles.  I love leggings and billowy tops & dresses that allow for maximum comfort.  I hate anything binding.  I don’t want to tie myself down in life, why would I in my clothes?”

Thanks, Honor!  Good luck in the Pageant!

Now it’s time for a GIVEAWAY. You can be a beauty queen too with this $100 gift card!$100

  1. Which awesome fashion trend do you wish would make a comeback? Peasant skirts. They were super comfy
And which awful fashion trend do you hope to never see again? Big Bangs! I had some really awful bangs in high school! This is fun! Thanks! megan.ennes[at]gmail.com

  2. Love your post! I said to the other day I want to get a jean jacket. They are back in style, but in my mid 30s, not sure I can pull it off. I totally would not bring back rolling the jeans 🙂 Not entering since I am part of this!

  3. I hope I never ever see crocs making a comeback I just hate them! And what would I love to make a comeback?? I would love to see bell bottoms make a comeback in a more modern way! I love the 70;s.

  4. I NEVER want to see spandex or fanny packs again! I would love to see overalls come back into fashion in a cute way!

  5. I’m a 90s girl so grunge and/or anything worn on My So-Called Life should make a comeback. I wish Spanx would go away though. I hate hearing about how women have to be uncomfortable in order to look thin.

  6. I’m thinking tye-dye should make a comeback.. what shouldn’t how about bib overalls

  7. Gorgeous video… it literally made me cry! To see such joy and talent. Anyway – for sure I want low-rise jeans to go away forever. For anyone that’s had a baby and didn’t get a flat belly back, these are just a nightmare – consequently, I would love for high-waisted anything to come back, 1980’s I think. The waistbands were so high they could function as a bra!

  8. It was great to learn more about Honor! I think she’s got one of the most unique professions of any Chick Lit heroine. She’ll definitely catch the judges’ eyes with her talent!

    Wonderful post, Rachel! 🙂

    1. Thanks, Tracie! Honor’s a very unique individual. At the start of the book she’s actually a team-building consultant who’s very bitter about her ended career, but dancing is always close to her heart

  9. I’m not sure what trend I’d like to see make a comeback, but I definitely could do without a few of the current trends. I’m not a fan of seeing young girls in crop tops and shorts with their butt cheeks hanging out. It’s not appropriate in any situation and it’s truly not attractive. I wish we lived in a world where people wore what flattered their bodies and fit their style aesthetic rather than just wearing things because they’re on trend. I’m all for wanting to be in fashion, but at what cost? Certainly not at the cost of my own comfort and sensibility.
